Apologizing for not responding to her first letter sooner, noting that she has been copying for Lockhart and that she was "sick at the sight of pen ink and paper;" thanking her for a package from Mrs. Scott; describing their stay at Wycombe Abbey; mentioning the ill health of Lockhart's mother and his plans to visit her the following month; discussing the upcoming marriage of Tom Hamilton to a widow with £3,000 a year, a house in London, and a grown up son; discussing other mutual acquaintances and family members.
